Lead Barista / Barista

Café Habibti is coming to the heart of NYC, and we’re putting together a crew of skilled baristas who care about great coffee and great vibes. Behind the bar, you’ll work on a Modbar espresso system and top-tier gear to serve drinks that are as dialed-in as the service - quick, precise, and always welcoming.

We are seeking Part-Time and Full-Time Baristas & Lead Baristas to join our opening team, reporting directly to the Café Manager. Our team members will run all front-of-house operations while ensuring every customer interaction reflects the warmth and quality of our brand.

Duties & Responsibilities (All Baristas)

  • Perform opening and closing procedures, including dialing in espresso, brewing tea/coffee, cleaning workstations, and ensuring the café is guest-ready

  • Prepare espresso-based drinks, teas, and specialty beverages according to Café Habibti recipes and presentation standards

  • Operate Modbar espresso systems, grinders, brewers, and related equipment (Modbar experience preferred but not required)

  • Maintain beverage quality, speed, and consistency during service

  • Greet guests with a genuine and warm welcome, answering questions with patience and professionalism

  • Maintain a polished, professional image while on duty, following hygiene and uniform guidelines

  • Follow all NYC Department of Health and food safety standards

  • Assist with inventory restocking and display upkeep

  • Handle POS transactions accurately and efficiently

  • Contribute to a fun, positive, and professional team atmosphere

Additional Duties (Lead Barista)

  • Lead bar operations during shifts, ensuring workflow efficiency and drink quality

  • Train and mentor new baristas on coffee preparation, equipment use, and service standards

  • Oversee daily workflow, delegate tasks, and monitor station readiness

  • Support management with scheduling input, menu updates, and seasonal specials

  • Communicate ordering needs and equipment maintenance issues to management

  • Serve as a point of contact for resolving customer concerns in real time

Qualifications (Required for All Applicants)

  • Minimum 1 year barista experience in a specialty coffee environment

  • Strong attention to detail and passion for exceptional customer service

  • Ability to multitask and collaborate effectively in a busy café environment

  • Comfortable standing and moving for extended periods; able to lift up to 30 lbs

  • NYC Food Handler Certificate preferred (or ability to obtain)

  • Experience with Modbar systems preferred but not required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs frequently

  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and reach as needed during shift duties

  • Ability to work in varying temperatures (near espresso machines, ovens, refrigerated areas)

  • Able to stand/walk for the duration of scheduled shifts

Schedule & Compensation

  • Competitive hourly wage plus tips, commensurate with experience

  • Must have flexible availability, including early mornings, weekends, and late nights (Fri/Sat until midnight)

  • Part-time and full-time positions available
